Insurance and other things you need to know:

Each insurance policy is different, and we advise you to ensure well in advance that your treatment is covered.

It is also very important to check whether you can self-refer for physiotherapy or need to be referred to a physiotherapist by a consultant or doctor before receiving treatment.

Before you attend your appointment, you must present:

  • Your up-to-date membership and treatment authorisation numbers from your insurance company
  • Your policy limitations (e.g. your excess amount and the amount of money or number of sessions approved)

Attending your appointment:

  • Bring along any referral letters, scans, or reports that you may have
  • Be suitably attired for your appointment
  • Arrive in accordance with our Attendance Policy

Please be aware that it is your policy and Birmingham Physiotherapy cannot be held responsible for any costs incurred.

Payment for treatment is required at the end of each session. We invoice your insurer directly on your behalf, however, if your insurer declines to pay an invoice it is your responsibility to settle all outstanding fees directly with Birmingham Physiotherapy.

Any appointments you undertake prior to advising Birmingham Physiotherapy of your wish to use your health insurance or obtaining your insurers approval or full details will be charged to you at the full rate and will not be refundable, in full or in part once you have approval.

At times, your insurer may reject an invoice due to the limitations of your policy, meaning you will need to pay Birmingham Physiotherapy directly. You will need to contact your insurer yourself due to data protection.

Below are some examples of why your insurer may reject and invoice we have sent on your behalf:

  • As with most insurance policies you will have an excess. Your insurance company may ask you to pay this excess to Birmingham Physiotherapy directly.
  • You may have reached your maximum benefit. If you have reached your policy limit and the value of your treatment sessions exceeds this amount, you will have to pay the outstanding amount.
  • Your insurance company may decide to limit the number of treatment session you’re allowed. If so, you will need to pay for all treatment sessions outstanding.
  • Your insurance company may not allow you to have two related or unrelated appointments on the same day.
  • If you do not present us with the relevant authorisation, or if your employer has to authorise treatment then you may not have this benefit available until it is authorised. If so, you will need to pay for all treatment until this is resolved.

If any of the above occur, you as the patient, who has received treatment from us, will be liable and expected to cover any outstanding monies.

Please note that insurance companies will not pay for missed appointments, cancellations without sufficient notice in accordance with our terms and conditions, or for any treatment/service undertaken by you that has not been authorised or a benefit of your policy, therefore, you will need to pay the full amount for that appointment/service.
