MIDLAND PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy Textbooks

If you're thinking about what physiotherapy-related books you'll need as a student, it can be overwhelming and result in you having more questions than answers.

Don't worry, this is completely normal - but remember, you are not expected to know it. You'll be surprised how much you have retained from your A Level's and other relevant qualifications or experience that has got you to where you are now. The rest you'll learn on your physiotherapy degree.

To take the stress away, and in no particular order, here are my book recommendations (via Amazon) for physiotherapy students:

1. The Physiotherapist's Pocketbook

2. Respiratory Physiotherapy Pocketbook

3. Neurological Physiotherapy Pocketbook

4. Ross and Wilson Anatomy & Physiology in Health and Illness

5. The Concise Book of Muscles

6. Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy: Adults and Paediatrics (Physiotherapy Essentials)

7. Physical Management for Neurological Conditions (Physiotherapy Essentials)

8. Tidy's Physiotherapy (Physiotherapy Essentials)

9. Musculoskeletal Examination and Assessment: A Handbook for Therapists (Physiotherapy Essentials)

10. Principles Musculoskeletal Treatment and Management (Physiotherapy Essentials)

11. The Study Skills Handbook (Stella Cottrell)

12. The Study Skills Book (Kathleen McMillan and Jonathan Weyers)

13. Brilliant Study Skills (Bill Kirton)

14. How to Write Essays and Assignments (Kathleen McMillan and Jonathan Weyers)

Tip: Take the relevant pocketbook on placement - they're a lifesaver. Once I knew what my placement area was going to be (e.g. respiratory, musculoskeletal or neurological), I would go through the relevant pocketbook and label each section with a sticky tab to make things easier to find and refer back to.

There's nothing wrong with doing a little light reading whilst you wait to start your course, however, avoid putting too much pressure on yourself. Like I mentioned previously, the lecturers don't expect you to know it on day 1, the course is 3 years for a reason.
